Skidmore wins fifth straight with dominating victory at Bard

Box Score  KINGSTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team won its fifth straight contest with a resounding 15-3 victory over Bard in Liberty League action at Dietz Stadium Saturday evening.
 
Skidmore improves to 6-3 on the season and a perfect 2-0 in league play. Bard falls to 4-4 overall in its first league contest of the season.
 
Will Lukas and Conor Austin led the Thoroughbreds with three points apiece in what was a balanced scoring effort. Austin tallied a goal and two assists, while Lukas tallied three assists. Brendan Halloran, Garrett Munck, Cody Legeza, RJ Caruso, and Justin Csenge each tallied two goals, and Paddy Fallon, Alex Towey ,Ward Mahoney, and Eric Megnia completed the scoring. Logan Hart and Colby Farnham provided assists.
 
Eli Millstein grabbed five ground balls and caused two turnovers to lead the Skidmore defense. John Leitner and Tommy Kane each forced two of Skidmore's 11 forced turnovers in the effort. Chris Baughan grabbed the victory with five saves in 30 minutes of play. Jack Spagnoletti (two saves in 10:15) and Josh Worley (five saves in 15:00) also saw action.
 
Corey Rich (one goal and one assist) and Sam Smith (two goals) led Bard with two points apiece.
 
Skidmore took early advantage on the offensive end, tallying a season-best seven goals in the first period of play to break the game open. Megnia capped off a dominant first period with the Thoroughbred's first man down goal of the season at 1:31.
 
Skidmore took a commanding 13-0 lead into the third quarter, before Bard broke the drought at 11:27. Austin came right back for Skidmore in the fourth, scoring a man up goal at 12:13. Skidmore and Bard split four goals in the final 9:32 of play for the final result.
 
Skidmore nearly doubled up on shots in the victory, outshooting Bard 30-16. Skidmore also completed 20-of-21 clear opportunities. Skidmore was 1-for-2 on extra man opportunities and held Bard to an 0-for-3 mark with the extra man.
 
Skidmore next hosts #8 RIT at Wachenheim Field next Saturday in a 2 p.m. start.
