SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Skidmore College honored its top senior athletes and team most valuable players recently as part of 2016 year-end activities.
Men's basketball standout
Erik Sanders and field hockey All-American and softball all-star
Dani DeGregory were selected as the Senior Athlete Award winners. Women's soccer captain
Shelby Hanlon received the Leadership Award. The Thoroughbred Award was presented men's soccer and men's swimming and diving MVP
Mario Hyman. The co-winners of the Community Service Award were
Berke Tinaz of men's crew and
Caroline Hobbs of women's tennis.
Emily Mangan of the softball team team and basketball's
Isaac Carp received the Senior Scholar Athlete Awards. Carp also won the Tim Brown Scholar Athlete Award.

Field Hockey's
Tori Eldridge presented a Student Athlete Advisory Committe update and Mangan and Carp were selected to provide remarks on their Skidmore athletic experience.

Sanders was a key starter for the back-to-back Liberty League champion men's basketball team that advanced to the NCAA second round two straight times. A two-time second-team Liberty League All-Star, he scored more than 1,000 points in his Skidmore career.

DeGregory led the nation in field hockey scoring and assists her last two seasons. In field hockey, she was a two-time first-team All-American and two-time Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year. She led her team to three Liberty League Championships and three NCAA tournaments, including a final four and elite eight appearance. In softball, she's a two-time Liberty League first team all-star and led the team to two conference tournaments, including a second place finish in 2016.

Hanlon worked her way up through the ranks to serve as captain and start her senior season for the women's soccer team. She was twice voted by her teammates as the player who most embodies the spirit, discipline, and meaning of being a member of the women's soccer team.

Hyman is the rare two-sport standout, earning both the men's soccer and men's swimming MVP awards. He is a multiple recored holder in swimming and key defender on the men's soccer team that played in the Liberty League title game. According to one of his coaches, " he has maintained a high standard of athletic and academic performance and social responsibility for all of those around him."

Tinaz has been an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) all four years. In addition he has volunteered with several community organizations, including Special Olympics, Toiletry Drive for the Franklin Community Center, and the Crew Winter Coat Drive.

Hobbs is another active SAAC leader who served as the Honors Forum President. She founded the Step-Up for Sustainability Shoe Drive for the Saratoga backstretch workers and was active in Show Your Sport.

Mangan compiled a 3.955 GPA in Environmental Studies and Government. She was a key starter for the softball team that finished second in the Liberty League championship. She received three Liberty League All-Academic Awards and is a multiple Thoroughbred Society honoree.

Carp helped the men's basketball team win consecutive Liberty League titles and two NCAA tournament first round games, while maintaining a 3.91 average in Business. Carp has been a Thoroughbred Society recipient and is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection.
