Skidmore ties #6 UMASS Boston behind 57 McDonald saves

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass.—Skidmore College junior Jack McDonald stopped 57 of the 60 shots he faced to lead the Thoroughbreds to a 3-3 overtime tie against #6 UMass Boston Friday night at the Beacons Ice Arena.

The tie gives the Thoroughbreds (4-11-3, 4-5-2 New England Hockey Conference) its first three-game unbeaten streak of the season. Skidmore is 2-1-2 over its last five games. The first place Beacons (13-3-2, 9-1-1) beat the Thoroughbreds 3-2 on Nov. 14.

Down 1-0, Skidmore took a 2-1 lead in the second period on goals by Adam Moodie and Ondrej Krajnak.

The Beacons scored a pair of third period goals to take a brief 3-2 advantage. Moodie potted his second goal of the night at 13:21 on the power play to even the contest and help the Thoroughbreds improve to 4-1-2 in their last six conference games.

McDonald was sensational, as he stopped 57 of 60 shots. The junior netminder made 17 saves in the first, 20 in the second, 14 in the third and stopped all six shots he faced in the extra session, including three during a UMB power play.

Offensively, the Thoroughbreds top line combined for another big game. Moodie scored the team's first and third goals, while junior Marc Cibelli added two assists to his team-leading total (18). Captain Ondrej Krajnak scored Skidmore's second tally, for his third goal of the season.

Skidmore continues its Boston trip on Saturday at 4 p.m. against #7 Babson.
