AMHERST, Mass.—The 30^th ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team upset #22 Stevens 5-4 Friday to move into Saturday's NCAA Regional Final against defending national champion and host Amherst College.
 
Kit Sanderson won the deciding match in dramatic fashion at number two singles, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 over Ben Foran.
 
It will be the third time in program history that the Thoroughbreds will compete in the regional finals. The last time, Skidmore lost to eventual national champion Williams College in 2013.  
 
The Thoroughbreds (14-7) lost 7-2 to the Ducks (19-6) at home on April 12.  It would be a different result the second time around.
 
Skidmore led 2-1 after doubles with wins at number one and two.
 
Three of the six singles matches went three sets, including Sanderson's.  Sanderson won the first set 6-3, before Foran battled back for a 7-6 win in the second. Sanderson then went up 5-3 in the third, but Foran came back again, breaking serve to tie it 5-5.   Sanderson  regrouped and won the next two to win the match for the Thoroughbreds. He held on five match points.     
 
In a rematch of two of the region's top players, Kai Yuen Leung beat Matthew Heinrich in three sets for the second time this season, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
 
Max Swerdlick got the start at number six and beat David Schulz 6-2, 6-0.
 
Saturday's final will be the second meeting between Skidmore and Amherst. The Lord Jeffs beat the Thoroughbreds 7-2 in a match played in California on March 19.
