Men's Lacrosse Game Preview - vs. Vassar

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore men's lacrosse team will be in search of its first league win of the season when it hosts Vassar on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (2-6, 0-2 Liberty League): Skidmore pulled out to a 3-0 lead against #18 RPI on Wednesday, but the Engineers came storming back with nine unanswered goals to secure the 9-4 win. Senior attackman Josh Trachtenberg extended his scoring streak to six games, while sophomore attackman Jack Metzler scored for the fifth straight game.
 
The Thoroughbreds have struggled to find their rhythm on offense this season and have yet to score in double digits. Metzler and Trachtenberg have combined for 20 of the team's 49 goals this season, including 16 of the Skidmore's 31 goals over the last five games.
 

SCOUTING THE BREWERS (4-3, 0-1 Liberty League): Vassar bounced back from a 9-8 loss to #18 RPI with a 17-12 win over Mount St. Mary on Wednesday. Sophomore attackman Sam Houston-Read had a career day, producing eight points with four goals and four assists. Junior attackman Noah Parson added four goals, sophomore midfielder Liam Moriarty had a hat trick and two helpers and sophomore attacking Chris Billups contributed three goals and an assist.
 
The Brewers, who have alternated wins and losses in their first seven games, are 4-1 when scoring nine or more goals and 4-0 when scoring a man-up goal. Vassar is averaging 11.14 goals per game and has outscored its opponents 46-35 in the second half.
 
Parson leads the team with 17 goals and 21 points and currently ranks seventh in the league in goals per game (2.43). Moriarty is second on the team with 13 goals and 18 points, while Houston-Read is third with 16 points, including a team-best 10 assists.  Freshman Erik Mikelinich has seen the majority of the minutes in the cage, posting an 10.83 goals against average and a .482 save percentage in five starts.
