GREENCASTLE, Ind.-- The Skidmore College women's tennis team took #11 DePauw University deep into the early morning hours before dropping a 6-3 match in the ITA Division III Indoor National Championships played at the DePauw Tennis Center.
 
The 17th ranked Thoroughbreds are 4-3, while DePauw evens its record at 3-3.
 
The match started on Feb. 28 didn't conclude until almost 4 a.m. on March 1.
 
Brianna Greene was a double winner for Skidmore. She beat Taylor Mahr 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) at number three singles and combined with Danielle Giannetti for an 8-4 win at number three doubles.
 
"This tournament was an important step in our building process," said SKidmore coach Curt Speerschneider.  "Each player, especially our four freshmen, gained valuable experience in high pressure matches which will definitely pay dividends in the future.  Every match we played came down to third sets that could've gone either way.  We proved that we're right there with these top programs and certainly capable of breaking into the top 15 this year.  Sometime it just takes a few "just misses" to learn how to take that step forward.  We're in a good spot at this point."
 
Skidmore will host Liberty League preseason favorite Vassar College at the Wilton YMCA on March 7 at 1 p.m.
