CLAREMONT, Calif.-- The 27th ranked Skidmore College men's tennis team narrowly missed the upset in a 5-4 loss to 9th ranked Pomona-Pitzer in a match played March 18 at the Pauley Tennis Complex.
 
Skidmore (6-2) led 2-1 after doubles. Kai Yuen Leung and Jonah Epstein won 9-8 (7-1) at number two doubles over Antony Bello and Spencer Simonides.  Steven Koulouris and Lucas Pickering won 8-5 at number three doubles against Jonathan Kim and Sam Crawford.
 
The Sagehens (14-3) won four singles matches for the 5-4 win.  Pickering won at number four singles, 6-3, 6-1 against Simonides. Kit Sanderson won at number two when Kim retired. Sanderson was up 5-7, 6-3, 4-0. 
 
Koulouris and Epstein lost tight three-set matches.  Koulouris at number three singles 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 and Epstein at number five singles 5-7, 6-4, 6-2.
 
Skidmore takes on #1 Amherst College on March 19 at 1 p.m.
