ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College men's tennis team captured the program's seventh Liberty League title with a 5-0 win over RPI in the championship match, Sunday afternoon at Goergen Field House.
As in the quarterfinals and the semifinals, the 20th-ranked Thoroughbreds (13-7) swept doubles to open a 3-0 lead.
Oliver Loutsenko and
Danny Knight, ranked fourth in the Northeast region in doubles, notched an 8-6 win at number one.
Jimmy Sherpa and
Nick Tong, ranked 13th in the region, grinded out an 8-5 win at number two and
Miles Ransom and
Gabe Steerman were 8-2 winners at number three.
Sherpa and Knight clinched the championship with wins at number two and number three singles, respectively. Sherpa defeated Jarrett Regler 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 and Knight battled back from a first set loss to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 at number three.
The Thoroughbreds earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament and will be making their seventh consecutive appearance.
