Men's lacrosse knocked off by RPI

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team was topped by RPI, 14-4, Tuesday evening at Wachenheim Field in Liberty League play.
 
Senior attackman Quinn Hawkins recorded his sixth-straight multi-point game with a pair of goals and Josh Trachtenberg and Seth Berger both tallied for the Thoroughbreds (1-8, 0-3 Liberty). Sam Christiansen collected a team-high five ground balls and caused two turnovers.
 
Matt Hall registered six points for the Engineers (7-2, 3-0) with five goals and an assist, Breanainn McNeally scored two goals to go along with three asissts and Scott Crow and Aaron Shavel had two goals each.
 
Both teams struggled to find offense in the first quarter. After Billy Gibbs got the Engineers on the board at 10:31, Hawkins brought the Thoroughbreds even with his 13th goal of the season.
 
RPI took control in the second quarter, netting five goals as its defense continued to stifle the Skidmore attack and keep the Thoroughbreds off the scoresheet. The Engineers carried the momentum into the second half, adding seven goals in the third quarter to push ahead 13-2 heading into the final frame. Hawkins and Berger both added goals for the Thoroughbreds in the fourth quarter, but RPI claimed the 14-4 win.
 
RPI outshot Skidmore 42-20 and owned a 25-21 advantage in ground balls. Matt Diaco turned away 11 shots in goal for the Thoroughbreds, while Alex Castronovo made four saves in his seventh win of the season.
 
Skidmore travels to Trinity College Friday, April 4 for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
