Men's lacrosse upended by Hamilton College

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore men's lacrosse team was downed by Hamilton College, 16-3, Tuesday evening at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds go to 1-5 on the season, while the Continentals improve to 2-4.
 
Quinn Hawkins and Seth Berger each contributed a goal and an assist, Jack Metzler netted his fourth goal of the season and Taylor Best collected a game-high eight groundballs for Skidmore.
 
Sam Sweet paced the Hamilton offense, tallying three goals and adding three assists, Brian Hopper recorded a hat trick, and Connor Morgan and Matt Hrvatin each produced a pair of goals.
 
The Continentals pulled away in the first half, scoring eight unanswered goals before Hawkins potted his 10th goal of the season. Hrvatin scored in the final seconds of the first half, and Hamilton carried the momentum into the second half, scoring six-straight to put the game out of reach.
 
Berger and Metzler managed to break through the Continentals stifling defense with goals just over two minutes apart midway through the fourth quarter.
 
Hamilton outshot Skidmore 44-26 and owned a 35-24 advantage in ground balls. Matt Diaco made nine saves in 42:10 in goal for the Thoroughbreds, and Bennett Beutel stopped two shots in relief.
 
Skidmore travels to St. Lawrence University for a Liberty League contest at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
