Box Score BABSON PARK, M.A. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener in a non-conference contest against Babson, 12-5, Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

Sophomore
Kevin Mulvey led the Thoroughbreds with two goals and one assist.
Seth Berger and
Henry Thomsett also tallied for Skidmore. In goal, senior
Matt Diaco collected a team-high six groundballs and caused a pair of turnovers. He finished the day with 12 saves.

Spencer Low scored a career-high five goals for the Beavers, Kyle Barsalou scored twice and Christian Cattaruzza led all players with seven groundballs and three caused turnovers. In goal, Adam Daroff turned away nine shot in the first three quarters of play, and Giles Ober stopped three shots to close out the game for Babson.

Mulvey opened the scoring for Skidmore (0-1) just 1:04 into the first quarter, but the lead was short-lived as Babson (1-0) responded with nine unanswered tallies to build a 9-1 halftime lead.

Barsalou and Low each scored twice in the opening period to help the Beavers go ahead 5-1 after 15 minutes. Packer and Harrison scored just 38 seconds apart early in the second quarter to make it a six-goal game, and senior Craig Jerabeck sophomore Brendan Coan (Towson, Md.) tacked on goals before the break.

The Thoroughbreds got goals from Berger and Thomsett around Low's third tally of the game to cut the deficit to 10-3 after three quarters. Mulvey scored 2:35 into the fourth quarter and then assisted on
Jack Metzler's first career goal to make it 10-5 with 8:34 left in the game.

That was as close as Skidmore would get though, as Low redirected a shot past Diaco at the 5:55 mark, and then notched his last goal of the day while falling to the ground after a Thoroughbreds turnover with 1:08 remaining for the final margin.

Senior Adam Daroff (Pepper Pike, Ohio) made nine saves over the first three quarters to earn his first collegiate victory, while first-year Giles Ober (Southborough, Mass.) stopped three shots in the fourth quarter for Babson.

The Beavers outshot Skidmore 36-29 and held a 40-31 edge in groundballs.

The Thoroughbreds host SUNY Potsdam in their home opener Saturday, Mar. 1 at 3:30 p.m.
