Skidmore battles back to tie Johnson & Wales, 2-2

Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Marc Cibelli scored with 4:57 left in regulation to give the Skidmore College hockey team a 2-2 tie with Johnson & Wales in the Skidmore Invitational consolation game.

In the championship game, Matthew Beer scored 1:20 into overtime to complete a Morrisville comeback in a 3-2 win over 15th ranked Williams College.

Johnson & Whales (5-3-1) struck first when Ben Brouillard tipped a shot from Jason Healey at 10:50.  Drew Kariofiles was credited with the second assist. The goal came right after Skidmore (2-6-1) killed off a :43 5-on-3 Wildcat power play.   David Limoges tied it for the Thoroughbreds when his shot went off J&W goalie Joey Ballmer's glove for his first goal of the year at 18:12.

Kariofiles put the Wildcats up 2-1 at 18:45 of the second when he caught the top corner for a power-play goal from Aaron Arm and Matt Lanzillotti.

With time running down in the third period, Skidmore took advantage of a late and ill-timed J&W penalty.  Cibelli deflected a shot from Travis Kauffman past Ballmer to tie the game at 15:03.

In the overtime, Thoroughbred goalie Jack McDonald turned away five shots, including three during a power play to preserve the tie.

McDonald finished with 29 saves, while Ballmer had 35 for the Wildcats.

In the championship game, Williams (4-1-1) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with first period goals from David Italiano at 7:34 and Dan Doherty at 19:34.

Brad Holman put Morrisville (4-4-2) on the board when he scored through traffic in front of Ephs goalie Sean Dougherty at 15:03 of the second period. Nick Russo and Alex Lewis assisted.

Marc-Antoine Chaput tied it at 15:03 of the third when he fired home a drop pass from Jordan Carvalho. John Doyle had the second assist.

In overtime, a Zach Baker pass found Beer all alone in front of Dougherty. Beer made a move, held his shot and then scored the game-winner.
