TROY, N.Y. – Senior Mike Perlow recorded a game-high four points to lead the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team to an 8-6 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this afternoon in Liberty League action at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Thoroughbreds improve to 4-6 (2-1 Liberty), while the Engineers drop to 5-5 (1-2 Liberty).
Perlow netted three goals on the day, while adding an assist. His man-up tally with 9:21 left in the fourth quarter provided a cushion that the Thoroughbreds were able to ride to the final horn.
The two teams traded goals early on until Perlow broke a 2-2 tie with 1:40 remaining in the first quarter. RPI senior Brett Overend kept the hosts within striking distance, scoring two of his game-high five goals in the opening stanza.
Skidmore continued its scoring run; however, scoring three more goals in the second quarter, before Overend ended the run with 1:45 remaining in the half. The Thoroughbreds took a 6-3 advantage into the break.
Overend's fourth goal of the game brought the Engineers to within 6-4 early in the third quarter, but Skidmore sophomore Matt Ohara pushed the visitors lead back three (7-4) four minutes later.
Markers from Overend and Eric Valero drew Renssealer to within 7-6 with 13:28 to go in the fourth quarter, but the Engineeers could not beat Skidmore junior netminder Matt Diaco the rest of the way.
Diaco, who improve to 3-6, made eight saves to earn the win.
Ohara finished with two goals, an assist, and three grouond balls. Kevin Mulvay added two goals and an assist for the Thoroughbreds, while Taylor Best and Seth Berger combined to win 10 of 17 faceoffs.
Skidmore is at Hamilton College on April 10.
