Box Score CLINTON, N.Y. - The Skidmore men's lacrosse team saw its two-game winning streak snapped Wednesday evening, as the Hamilton Continentals overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the visiting Thoroughbreds 13-11 at Steuben Field.
Skidmore slips to 4-7 overall, while Hamilton evens its record at 5-5.
The Thoroughbreds erased a three goal deficit in the early goings of the first quarter as Skidmore's offense produced three unanswered marks of its own to level the score at 3-3.
Josh Berger got the ball rolling when he buried a
Jon Hoeg pass for Skidmore's first goal of the contest. Less than ninety seconds later, Berger was at it again, this time slipping a
Bryan Connolly feed past Hamilton goalie Will Driscoll to bring the visitors within one goal. The Hamilton lead wouldn't hold for long as
Mike Perlow beat his defender and found an open
Kevin Mulvey who rocketed a shot past Driscoll to cap the Thoroughbred rally.
The Continentals countered on the man-up opportunity when John Zimmerman fed Conor Morgan for Hamilton's fourth goal of the frame.
Down 4-3 in the second stanza, the Thoroughbreds rattled off three consecutive goals. Skidmore capitalized on a Hamilton penalty as Perlow dropped the ball off to Hoeg who found the back of the net, making it 4-4. The Thoroughbreds then forced a turnover on the ensuing Continental possession and went on the break where Connolly found the back of the net to give Skidmore its first lead of the game, 5-4. Hoeg provided some breathing room at 9:43 when he snuck one past Driscoll to give Skidmore a two goal lead at 6-4.
Hamilton answered with a three-goal burst of its own, taking a short lived lead once again before Hoeg scored his third goal of the half on a pass from
Matt Ohara to tie the game at 7-7.
With time winding down in the half, Hamilton netted two goals to go into the intermission holding a 9-7 advantage.
As the second half got underway, Hamilton added to its lead, scoring two more goals before the Thoroughbreds could answer on a man-up opportunity with Perlow scored his 28th goal of the season.
Trailing 11-8 as the fourth quarter started, Skidmore went on the attack, scoring two quick goals to cut the Hamilton lead to a single goal at 11-10.
Over the next few minutes, both teams exchanged goals making it 12-11, but a Hamilton goal with 4:42 remaining in the game would hold up as Hamilton escaped with a 13-11 victory.
Hoeg tallied four points on three goals and an assist. Perlow scored two goals and accounted for two assists, while Connolly and Ohara each scored a goal and had one assist in the contest. Berger contributed two goals for Coach Sandler's squad.
Matt Diaco takes the loss after making 18 saves and scooping up two groundballs. Hamilton goalie Driscoll gets the win and stopped ten shots.
