Skidmore posts 14-4 Liberty League win over Vassar

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— Matt Ohara scored a career-high five goals to lead the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team to a 14-4 Liberty League win over Vassar College, Saturday at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds are 1-1 in Liberty  League and 3-6 overall. The Brewers drop to 0-2 and 3-6.

Ohara scored three times in the first quarter, including twice in the final 2:51 to help the Skidmore take a 4-2 lead after one.  Ohara opened the scoring at 14:14. Vassar then scored twice in a six second span on goals by Sean Brazier and Noah Parson to take a 2-1 lead.  The Thoroughbreds then scored the next nine goals over the next two quarters to break the game open, 10-2.

Every player dressed got into the game for Skidmore, with nine players earning points. Jon Hoeg finished with three goals and four assists and Mike Perlow had two goals.  Kevin Mulvey also had a multi-point game with a goal and an assist.  Henry Thomsett, Josh Berger, and Brian Moore all scored single goals. Sam Christiansen had three ground balls and three caused turnovers on defense. Skidmore forced 19 of Vassar's 28 turnovers.

Also for the Brewers, Scott Brekne had a goal and seven ground balls. He won 10 of 20 face offs. Sean Brazier had three caused turnovers, a goal, and three ground balls.

Skidmore outshot Vassar 60-35.

Thoroughbred goalie Matt Diaco earned the win with 11 saves in 50:04. John Sutherland and Bennett Beutel combined for three saves over the final 9:56.

Andrew Nicol had 24 saves in goal for Vassar. Ben Lehr had two saves over the final 3:39.
Skidmore is at Rensselaer on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
