BABSON PARK, Mass..-- Babson College broke open a tight game with three second period goals and went on to defeat Skidmore College, 7-1 in an ECAC East hockey quarterfinal Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds end their season at 11-13-2, while the14th ranked Beavers move on to next week's finals with a 15-6-5 record.
Babson controlled play for most of the first period, outshooting the Thoroughbreds by a count of 12-6 thanks to several blocks by Beaver defensemen. At the other end, the hosts grabbed a 1-0 lead at 17:28, as Connor Berto took a short feed from Mike Vollmin and scored his 16th goal of the season.
Babson scored three unanswered goals in the second to take control of the contest.
Skidmore would mount a 19-9 shot advantage in the final period, but it was the Beavers scored three more before
Vlad Gavrik took a face-off draw from
Brad Schuler and wristed it in for his 11
th of the year at 10:15.
Zeke Testa finished with 32 saves for the Beavers.
Ben Freiberg made 24 saves in just under 56 minutes of action for Skidmore, while sophomore
Spencer Sodokoff added one stop while playing the final minutes of the second and the opening minute of the third.
