Thoroughbreds skate past Potsdam, 4-3

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.--  Brad Schuler scored two goals, including the game winner,  to lead the Skidmore College hockey team to a 4-3 win over SUNY Potsdam in a non-conference contest, Saturday at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
 
The Thoroughbreds even their record at 6-6-2, while the Bears drop to 5-8-1.
 
Skidmore took a 2-0 lead in the first period. David Dupuis scored his third of the season from Julian Malakorn and Phil Buonocore at 14:25 and Schuler scored just after a Potsdam penalty expired at 16:54. Jack Even and Brendan Cottam assisted.
 
Even made it 3-0 with a power-play goal from Cottam at 11:50 of the second.  Potsdam got one back at 17:11 when Kenny Simon scored a power-play goal from Nick Avgerinos and Adam Place.
 
The Bears tied it 3-3 in the third on a pair of goals by Todd Thomas 22 seconds apart.  The first one came at 10:26, followed by the second at 10:48.   Cottam set Schuler up with the game-winner at 15:09.
 
Ben Freiberg improved to 3-1 with 21 saves. Austin Keiser took the loss with 35 saves for Potsdam.
 
Skidmore travels to Western New England College for a non-league game on Jan. 8 at 7:15 p.m.
