Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Clarkson's Eric Gollands scored with :01 to play in overtime to give the Golden Knights a 10-9 win over Skidmore College in a Liberty League contest Saturday evening at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds are 1-3 in league play and 5-7 overall with two conference games to play. Clarkson moves to 2-3 and 8-4.
The game was tight the whole way, tied 3-3 after one and 6-6 at the half.
Clarkson took the biggest lead of the game by either team, 8-6 on Brendon Shearin's goal with 4:20 to play in the third quarter. Skidmore battled back to tie it, 8-8 on goals by
Matt Ohara at 3:04 of the third and
Richie Davis at 7:50 of the fourth.
Gollands put Clarkson back in front off a blocked shot rebound with 4:20 to play.
Mike Perlow tied it back up for Skidmore, 9-9 when he scored his 30th of the season from a tough angle on the goal line. Both teams had chances to win it in the final minutes of regulation, but Thoroughbred goalie
Matt Diaco and Ryan Cole each came up big to force the overtime.
In the overtime, it was Diaco and Cole continuing to play well, with each goalie stopping two shots. Diaco's second save game on a point-blank shot by Brendon Shearin with :16 left in overtime. Gollands was able to force a turnover on the clear attempt and then quickly beat the clock with the game winner, his 31st of the season.
Perlow finished with three goals and an assist, while Davis had two goals.
Ryan Paradis had another big game, winning 18 of 22 face offs, while adding a goal, an assist, and 12 ground balls. Diaco had 15 saves.
Gollands finished with four goals for Clarkson, while Shearin had two goals and an assist. Rick Clement had six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Cole ended with 17 saves.
Skidmore returns to action April 17 at Middlebury.
