Skidmore volleyball to participate in Dig Pink

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's volleyball team will be participating in Dig Pink, a nationwide event to promote breast cancer awareness, during every home match in the month of October.
Dig Pink is an event run by the Side-Out Foundation, a Virginia based organization that uses volleyball as a tool to help raise funds for breast cancer victims and survivors.

The Thoroughbreds will be collecting donations during the Middlebury match on Oct. 9, th Union match on Oct. 16 and during the Skidmore Invitational (Oct. 26-27) weekend as part of breast cancer awareness month.

The 2011 October Dig Pink Rally was a great success. Over $1.2 million was raised by the 1.134 teams that participated in the Dig Pink Rally.  Many of the participating teams worked to educate their communities about breast cancer and the issues surrounding it.  Beginning in Septemver, school teams hosted Dig Pink events in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  The majority of events were held during October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Skidmore was able to raise $1,500 during last year's event.

“Cancer has touched the lives of so many, including myself and some of my players and their family.  It is a great cause and a great event for the Skidmore Community to participate in,” said Skidmore head volleyball coach Hilda Arrechea.

Skidmore encourages fans to wear pink during the events to support the cause.   Donations will be accepted at the event or online here.
