Lee Ford won her singles and doubles flight in the New York State Women's Tennis Tournament, played at Ithaca College.
Ford breezed through her draw at number two singles, beating Morgan McNeal of St. Lawrence 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals and then earning a default win over Alison Wang of New York University in the championship.
Ford combined with
Nataly Mendoza to win the number one doubles title. They beat Alison Tepas and Alex Vizgaitis of Nazareth 8-2 in the semifinals and Wang and Ashley Masanto of NYU 8-3 in the finals.
Freshman
Caroline Hobbs won her flight at number six singles. She beat Ithaca's Alyssa Steinweis 6-0, 6-0 in the semis and Vassar's Hannah Van Demark 6-4, 6-1 in the championship match.
Mendoza advanced to the number one singles final, beating Elkie Vandenbeemt of St. Lawrence 6-1, 6-0 in the semis, before losing 2-6, 6-2, 11-9 to Ithaca's Cristina Nunez in the championship.
In number three singles,
Alex Smith beat Vassar's Lindsay Kantor 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals and then lost 6-4, 6-4 to NYU's Mari Tzakis in the finals.
Robyn Baird beat Vassar's Lauren Stauffer 6-1, 6-2 to make it to the number five singles championship, losing a tough three-setter to Kiara Ocasio of William Smith, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
Smith and
Rachel Plevinsky finished second at number two doubles beating a team from Vassar 8-4 in the semis before losing 8-5 to a team from NYU.
