Potsdam, N.Y.-- For the second time in six days, the Skidmore College hockey team went into overtime with SUNY Potsdam, after a 4-4 tie on Jan. 1, the Bears came out in front this time with a 5-4 win.
Bill Tsekos scored with 52 seconds left in overtime for the win.
Skidmore (4-8-1) spotted Potsdam (6-5-2) a 2-0 first period lead.
Alex Essaris got the Thoroughbreds on the board with his second of the season 32 seconds into the second period from
Jack Walsh and
Tony Giacin. The Bears came right back at 1:24 to make it 3-1. Skidmore scored the next two to go into the third period tied 3-3.
Erik Nilsson scored an unassisted goal at 2:39 and
Nick Dupuis tallied a power-play goal from
Zach Menard and
Julian Malakorn at 18:32.
Tim Colvin gave the Thoroughbreds a 4-3 lead at 12:48 of the third on a power-play goal from
Tyler Doremus. Potsdam tied it with a power-play goal at 16:50. The Bears had another power-play opportunity late in the third, but Skidmore killed it to send the game into overtime.
Brad Cray played the first 21:24 in goal for the Thoroughbreds, stopping nine shots.
John Bienkowski came on in the second, finishing with 22 saves.
Skidmore continues its North Country trip on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against #3 Plattsburgh.
