Skidmore came out strong early with a 6-0 shot advantage. Potsdam got on the board with its second shot of the game at 7:12 mark, when Trevor Cope scored his sixth of the season. Hunter Syrydiuk took a blast from the right face-off circle that Cope tipped in front for the early lead. The lead grew to 2-0 at 14:01 when Sy Nutkevitch scored on a rebound for his sixth of the season. The period ended with the Thoroughbreds holding an 18-9 shots advantage and a 2-0 deficit.
Skidmore got on the board 6:47 into the second period, with a goal just after killing a five minute major penalty. The puck bounced off the backboards straight to
Tim Colvin, who quickly snapped a shot into the back of the net for his third of the year. The Bears regained a two-goal lead at 12:56, with Trevor Cope scoring his sixth of the season. Skidmore answered with just 1:40 remaining, as
Tony Giacin scored his team-leading ninth of the season. After McFarland had gone down, Giacin waited patiently before flipping the puck over him for the goal to make it a 3-2 game after two periods.
Potsdam took a 4-2 advantage 7:32 into the third period, when a blast from Nick Avgerinos deflected into the net on the power play. Skidmore answered at 13:03, making it a 4-3 game on a shot from the left point by
Jack Walsh that went in off the pipe for his first of the year. Skidmore came all the way back to tie the game with 48 seconds left with an extra attacker.
David Limoges threw the puck towards the front of the net from the corner, with it deflecting off a skate and into the net.
Skidmore took a penalty on the play and was able to kill it off through the remainder of the third period and into overtime. The Thoroughbreds had a great look with one minute remaining in OT, but
Alex Essaris' shot hit the right post and caromed wide.
John Bienkowski played 29:35 in goal for Skidmore, making 16 saves and allowing two goals.
Brad Cray came on midway through the second period, finishing the game with 10 saves and two goals allowed.
