Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— Skidmore All-American
Matt Levesque scored five goals to lead the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team to a 13-10 Liberty League win over Clarkson University in the season final for both teams.
With the win, the 14th ranked Thoroughbreds clinch the Liberty League regular season title and will host Rensselaer in a Liberty semifinal on May 6 at 4 p.m. The championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed on May 8. Union will host Clarkson in the other semifinal.
Skidmore finishes league play with a 5-1 mark and is 11-3 overall. The Golden Knights are 8-6 and 4-2.
The game was tied 5-5 at the half with Levesque scoring three times, including twice on rebounds. Brendon Shearin twice in the half for Clarkson.
Bryan Huff gave the Golden Knights a brief lead, 6-5, at 10:56 of the third. Skidmore scored five straight, including two more by Levesque, to lead 10-6 after three.
The teams traded goals in the third, with Clarkson getting a pair of man-up goals to get within two, 12-10. Skidmore's defense stepped-up and held the Golden Knights off the board for the final 4:12 with
Mike Perlow scoring an insurance goal with 2:32 to play for the 13-10 final.
Perlow finished with two goals and two assists.
Brian Milazzo had seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Ryan Paradis won 15 of 27 faceoffs with 10 ground balls and two assists.
Jacques Ward had four caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Eric Gollands had two goals and two assists for Clarkson, while Kyle Kasprzyk and Shearin finished with two goals each. Matt McCabe had a goal and three assists.
Skidmore had a slight 41-39 shot advantage. Thoroughbred goalie
Connor Dowling had 15 saves, while Clarkson goalie Ryan Cole finished with 13.
