Skidmore impressive with 12-4 Liberty win over Union

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— Skidmore outscored Union 8-1 in the third quarter on the way to a 12-4 Liberty League men's lacrosse win, Saturday evening at Wachenheim Field.

The 12th ranked Thoroughbreds up their record to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in Liberty League play. Union falls to 2-1 and 7-3.

Skidmore took a 4-0 lead in a low scoring first half on goals by Ben Cornell, Jon Hoeg, Mike Perlow, and Ryan Paradis. The Dutchmen battled back with three goals in the final 5:23 of the second quarter to cut the lead to 4-3 at the half. Rob Santangelo, Brendan Kinnane, and Ted McKenna each scored for Union.

The Thoroughbreds came out strong in the third quarter, scoring three straight to open the lead to four, 7-3. Mike Holden scored a pair and Perlow added his second goal of the game. Santangelo scored what would be Union's final goal at 8:25 of the third, to pull the Dutchmen to within three, 7-4.

Skidmore then exploded for four goals in a 1:45 to put the game away. Defenseman Dan DeMartini started the run at 8:19 off Paradis' faceoff win after the Union goal. Holden scored a man-up goal at 7:35. Perlow made it 10-4 at 6:46 and Holden scored his 25th of the season from Matt Levesque at 6:34. Levesque closed out the scoring with 10 seconds left in the quarter from Bryan Connolly.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Holden finished with a game-high four goals. Perlow had three goals and an assist. Nine different players contributed to Skidmore's 12 goals. Paradis won 12 of 20 faceoffs and had five ground balls. DeMartini had five groundballs and two caused turnovers, and Michael Jennings had three groundballs and three caused turnovers.

Connor Dowling had 14 saves in goal, including six in the scoreless fourth and three in the scoreless first.

Santangelo had two goals for Union. John Stidd had four groundballs and a caused turnover. McKenna and Kinnane had a goal and an assist each.

Dutchmen goalie Sean Aaron stopped 15 shots, including 10 in the first half.

Skidmore is at Hamilton on April 20. Union will host Cobleskill on April 18.
