Thoroughbred lacrosse teams set to host nationally ranked opponents

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Nationally ranked college lacrosse teams will battle in a doubleheader Wednesday at Skidmore's Wachenheim Field. The #19 Thoroughbreds take on #8 Rensselaer in a rematch of the 2010 Liberty League championship game at 4 p.m. The unbeaten Thoroughbred women host #6 Trinity College at 7 p.m.

The Skidmore men jumped into the polls for the first time this season, earning the #19 ranking after pushing their record to 6-1. Ben Cornell (Natick, Mass.), Mike Holden (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Mike Perlow (Briarcliff, N.Y.) are all tied for the team lead with 14 points, while junior goalie Connor Dowling (Darien, Conn.) has posted a 4-0 record to go along with a 5.58 goals against average and .652 save percentage. Rensselaer is also 6-1, bringing a five-game win streak into Wednesday's game.

The women's game is a battle of unbeatens as the Bantams bring their 5-0 record to Saratoga to face the 4-0 Thoroughbreds. Skidmore's quick start under first year coach Elizabeth Ghilardi is the team's best since the 2006 season. Senior attack Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, N.Y.) leads the team in scoring with 16 goals and 12 assists for 28 points. Junior goalie Rachel Klein (Far Hills, N.J.) leads the Liberty League with a 5.62 goals against average and .522 save percentage. Trinity is coming off an 11-9 win over #8 Colby.
