Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team built up an eight-goal lead and coasted to a 10-6 victory over Williams, Wednesday afternoon at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Ephs drop to 1-2.
Skidmore got on the board first as
Jeremy Goldman (Port Washington, N.Y.) tallied his second goal of the season at the 13:05 mark of the first quarter. Williams answered back to tie it a 1-1 on a Michael Acierno goal. The Thoroughbreds ended the quarter on a 3-0 run with goals from
Ben Cornell (Natick, Mass.),
Mike Holden (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and
Bryan Connolly (Babylon, N.Y.) to take a 4-1 lead.
Cornell opened up the second quarter with his second goal of the game to make it 5-1 before Mericos Rhodes ended the run with his first goal at the 11:22 mark. Skidmore answered right back and put together another run as Cornell, Holden and Connolly all scored to give the Thoroughbreds an 8-2 lead at half.
Richie Davis (Edgewater, Md.) and
Mike Perlow (Briarcliff, N.Y.) each scored in the third, extending the lead to 10-2. Colton Growney ended the 5-0 run with a man-up goal at the 5:10 mark of the third. Tim Goggins, Stephen Upton and Rhodes all tallied goals in the fourth for the Ephs but it was not enough as Skidmore was in control throughout and picked up the 10-6 win.
Cornell finished with three goals, while Connolly had two goals and an assist and Holden finished with two goals to lead the Thoroughbreds offensively.
Ryan Paradis (Brookside, N.J.) had a team-high five ground balls and
Connor Dowling (Darien, Conn.) made seven saves in goal to improve to 3-0 on the year.
Rhodes finished with two goals for Williams, while Corey Jacobs had a game-high nine ground balls and won 10-of-18 faceoffs. Evan Cohen took the loss in goal, making seven saves on 17 shots.
Skidmore was stingy on defense, killing off eight of nine man-up opportunities and finishing 29-30 on clear attempts.
The Thoroughbreds host U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
