Potsdam, NY - With a strong second-half effort, the Skidmore College Lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 10-6 victory over Clarkson University in Liberty league action at Hantz Turf Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds, who own an 8-5 overall record and a 4-2 conference mark, enter the upcoming league playoffs on a high note after winning three straight. Skidmore will play at Union or RPI in the Liberty semifinals on Friday.
The Golden Knights close out the season with a 3-12 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the Liberty League.
Senior Corey Barkoff (Woodbury, NY) led Skidmore with a game-high four points, including three goals. Freshman
Mike Holden (Cape Elizabeth, ME) chipped in two goals for the Thoroughbreds.
Skidmore got off to a slow start, falling behind 2-0 after the first quarter and 5-2 at the break. The Thoroughbreds, however, dominated the second half, outscoring the Golden Knights 8-1 over the final 30 minutes, putting four goals on the scoreboard in both the third and fourth quarters.
Tied 6-6 after 45 minutes, Skidmore tallied twice in a 13-second span to open the fourth quarter and never looked back. Freshman J.P. Sullivan (Floral Park, NY) gave Skidmore its first lead of the game with a man-up goal 52 seconds into the quarter, followed by senior
Scott Grillo's (Wellesley, MA) goal at 13:55 to put the visitors on top 8-6.
Freshman John Devine (Orchard Park, NY) led Clarkson offensively with two goals.
Skidmore outshot Clarkson 39-25 and controlled ground balls 39-25.

Flip Bongaerts (New Canaan, CT) made seven saves to record the win. Sophomore
Ryan Paradis (Brookside, NJ) scooped up a game-high seven ground balls for the Thoroughbreds.
