Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team took a 5-0 first quarter lead and never looked back on the way to an 11-3 Liberty League win over Hamilton College, Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds move to 2-2 in Liberty League play and 6-5 overall. The Continentals fall to 2-3 and 8-3 overall.
Skidmore scored the game's first six goals with five in the first quarter and the first of the second. J.P. Sullivan opened the scoring with a man-up goal from
Cory Barkoff at 11:12.
Mike Holden scored consecutive goals at 10:50 and 5:09 to make it 3-0. Barkoff scored his 23rd of the season at 2:55 for a 4-0 lead.
Ryan Paradis won the ensuing faceoff that led to a
Rob Lutin goal 15 seconds later for the 5-0 advantage.
Matt Levesque made it 6-0 with his 20th of the season at 10:41 of the second. Jon Leanos scored Hamilton's only goal of the first half at 7:43. Sullivan closed out the half scoring from
Tom Howley at 1:10 for a 7-1 lead at the break.
Both teams played tough defensively to open the third quarter, with the Continentals breaking through first with Leanos scoring at 7:35 to make it 7-2. Skidmore answered with a man-down goal by defenseman
Jeremy Herrmann at 5:40. It was Herrmann's first goal of the season. Hamilton's Franke Holiber scored his ninth of the season with 14 seconds left in the third to make it 8-3.
The fourth quarter was all Skidmore, with Levesque setting-up goals by Holden and Lutin and
Jeff Caruso scoring his first of the season from
Jon Hoeg.
Holden finished with three goals and an assist. Sullivan and Lutin had two each. Paradis won 13 of 17 faceoffs.
Skidmore had an outstanding game on defense, holding Hamilton to 13 shots on goal total.
Alex Giaimo had five ground balls, while
Scott Grillo had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Scott Madison contributed a pair of caused turnovers and
Michael Jennings had three ground balls.

Flip Bongaerts had 10 saves, including five in the first quarter.
Leanos finished with two goals and three ground balls for Hamilton. Garrett Akie and Max Vaickus split time in net, with Akie making seven saves in the first half and Vaickus coming-up with five stops in the second.
Skidmore outshot Hamilton 50-28 ,with a 20-8 advantage in the first quarter.
The Thoroughbreds host Vassar College on Saturday at 7 p.m. Hamilton is at Morrisville on Saturday at 1 p.m.
