Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team led from start to finish on the way to a 12-7 non-league win over Hartwick College, Saturday at Wachenheim Field. The Thoroughbreds improve to 2-0, while the Hawks fall to 1-1.

Skidmore took control from the start, scoring the game's first three goals and five of the first six on the way to a 5-1 lead in the first half.Tom Howley (Colonia, N.J./Northfield Mount Hermon) and J.P. Sullivan (Floral Park, N.Y./Charminade) scored goals 12 seconds apart in the final 47 seconds of the first quarter to key the run.

Howley and Cory Barkoff (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) led the balanced Thoroughbred attack with three goals and two assists each. Skidmore had 10 different players pick-up points on the 12 goals. Barkoff also had four ground balls, a caused turnover, and won six of 11 faceoffs.

Harry Hughes led Hartwick with three goals, while Dave Aitchison added two goals and an assist. Defenseman Alex Skvarch had a game-high nine groundballs and five caused turnovers.

Skidmore outshot the Hawks 49-28 and held a 33-25 edge in ground balls.

Flip Bongaerts(New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) had 12 saves in net for the Thoroughbreds, while Ryan Twardowski stopped 13 shots for Hartwick.

Skidmore will host Western Connecticut on March 13 at 1 p.m.
