Women's tennis downed by Chapman, 5-4

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- The Chapman University women's tennis team squeaked by Skidmore College, 5-4, in a match played at Chapman on Wednesday.

The Thoroughbreds fall to 1-2 in the spring season, and will face University of LaVerne and the University of Texas-Tyler in the remainder of their spring break.

Sophomore Rachel Loeb earned a 6-3, 6-0 decision at number two singles when she defeated Chapman's Kelley Fox.  Juniors Dani Fancher and Laura Attley also posted wins at number four and five singles.

Freshman Allie Burns and senior Steph Abrams were victorious at number three doubles with a tough 9-8 (7-2) over Roxanne Kaiden and Sheehan Tripple.

"We fought extremely hard this match.  We knew it would be very competitve so the close scores are no surprise.  Burns and Abrams bailed us out a bit at #3 doubles again.  They are playing very well together," said head coach Curt Speerschneider

"It's tough going into singles down for the second straight match though.  We're going to key in on that and probably switch some things up with the other pairs.  These last two 5-4 loses will indeed make us stronger in the long run."
