Lake Placid, N.Y. – Skidmore College lost its first game of the season, 4-1 to Potsdam at Herb Brooks Arena. The Thoroughbreds fall to 2-1 while the Bears improve to 4-4.

Potsdam was able to get on the board first when Colin MacLennan redirected a shot off the stick of Matt Rhymer and beat Skidmore keeper Colin Bessey just 1:47 into the first period. The Bears would add two goals from Todd Hosmer and a goal from Kevin MacLellan and extend their lead to 4-0 in the third period.

Sophomore Tyler Doremus would get the Thoroughbreds on the board when he took a feed from Matt Czerkowicz and beat Potsdam keeper Andy Groulx on a power play 10:20 into the third period. Skidmore was able to convert just once on nine power play opportunities.

Bessey allowed three goals on 28 shots in 46:45 and John Bienowski allowed on goal on 11 shots in relief for the Thoroughbreds. Groulx allowed just one goal and made 33 saves for Potsdam.

Skidmore will host the Skidmore Invitational this weekend where they will take on Nichols College at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
