Seven Skidmore athletes receive weekly recognition

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Liberty League has honored seven Skidmore athletes for their performances during another successful weekend for the Thoroughbreds.
 
Field hockey junior Christine Kemp (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) and women's soccer sophomore Elena Stansky each earned Co-Offensive Performers of the Week, while golf senior Chris DeJohn (Rocky Hill, Conn.) earned Performer of the Week and women's soccer sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Sleezer earned Co-Defensive Performer of the Week. Freshman golfer Anthony Dilisio (Swampscott, Mass.) and freshman women's tennis player Nataly Mendoza each received Rookie of the week and field hockey freshman Ceilidh MacNeill was named Co-Rookie of the Week.
 
Kemp scored four goals and had an assist in a 2-0 week for the Thoroughbreds. She scored twice and had an assist at Castleton and added two more goals against Morrisville and has now scored in four straight.
 
MacNeill scored in both games during the week, including the game-winner at Castleton. Skidmore improved to 10-3 and travels to Geneva to take on William Smith Saturday at 3 p.m.
 
Stansky helped keep the Throroughbreds undefeated in Liberty League play with her game-winning goal in the 89th minute of Skidmore's 1-0 victory over Union. Stansky has scored a goal in three consecutive games, including two game-winners. 
 
Sleezer played outstanding in goal in the 1-0 victory. She made four saves, all in the second half, to pick up her seventh shutout of the season. Women's soccer is now 11-2-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.
 
DeJohn shot a tournament-best four-under 68 to help lead Skidmore to a 14-stroke victory at the NYU/Manhattanville Golf Classic. Dilisio tied for third with a 73 and had the second best score for the Thoroughbreds.
 
Mendoza won the #3 singles bracket at the NY State Tournament, defeating Vassar's Joy Backer 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in the finals. She also combined with Danika Robison to reach the finals of the #1 doubles bracket.
