Isabel Moreno hit three home runs leading the Skidmore College softball team to a dominant doubleheader sweep of MCLA (7-1, 17-5). The game two win was head coach
Liz Neubinski's 100
th-career victory.
- Moreno launched a pinch-hit blast on the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one. Then, out of the cleanup spot, she hit a two-run bomb as part of Skidmore's 13-run first inning and went deep again in the fourth for the third time. All of her long balls were to center field and were her first three home runs of her career.
- Skidmore improves to 13-21 on the season as it has now won five out of its last six.
- MCLA is 12-20.
Skidmore 7, MCLA 1
- Mallory Allen earned the complete-game victory, allowing six hits and no earned runs over seven innings with five strikeouts and no walks. She also threw 75 strikes on 100 pitches.
- Jessica Nachamie led the Thoroughbred offense, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, including a two-run single in the third inning and an RBI single in the fourth.
- Moreno added insurance with a pinch-hit solo home run in the sixth.
- Sam Waters scored three times, went 1-for-4 with a double and a stolen base.
- Elle Harrison reached base twice, scored two runs, and executed a sacrifice bunt in the first that advanced Waters to third.
- Rachel Monser contributed a pinch-hit double in the fourth inning.
- Skidmore capitalized on six MCLA errors, scoring three unearned runs.
- Juliana Johansen took the loss for MCLA, allowing nine hits and seven runs (four earned) over 6.0 innings.
- Allee George had two of MCLA's six hits and scored the Trailblazers' lone run in the seventh.
Skidmore 17, MCLA 5 (5 inn.)
- The visitors scored the first run of the game, but Skidmore exploded for 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning and cruised to a 17-5 win in five innings over MCLA to earn the doubleheader sweep.
- The Thoroughbreds batted around twice in the first inning recording 10 hits.
- Moreno led the offense, going 3-for-4 with two homers, five RBI, and three runs scored.
- Nachamie finished 3-for-4 with a triple, four RBI, and three runs scored.
- Caitlyn Dion added a 2-for-3 effort with a double, three RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
- Skidmore racked up 17 hits as eight different players recorded at least one hit and six had multi-hit efforts.
- The Thoroughbreds drew five walks and were hit by a pitch once.
- Rachel Monser (1-0) earned her first win of the season with a complete-game (five inning) effort. She allowed six hits and four earned runs, striking out two and walking four.
- MCLA scored three in the fifth, but the game ended via run rule.
- Skidmore turned two double plays defensively, including an around-the-horn double play to end the game.
