TROY, N.Y. – Senior guard
Edvinas Rupkus of the Skidmore College men's basketball team earns a spot in the Liberty League Honor Roll for the second time this season, as the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday, Jan. 7.
Rupkus also earned the award on Nov. 19.
The senior co-captain led the Thoroughbreds to another perfect weekend in league action, this time against Capital Region foes RPI and Union. Rupkus tallied 21 points in Friday's victory at RPI, going 7-of-12 from the field and 5-of-8 from 3-point range. In Saturday's win at Union, Rupkus was on fire down the stretch, scoring nine points in the final 3:56 to help lead Skidmore to victory. He finished with 23 points (8-of-12 from the field, 4-of-6 from beyond the arc), adding six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Rupkus is heating up for the Thoroughbreds as the team heads towards the midway point. He's averaging 21.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in the last three games, shooting an impressive 63.8 percent (23-of-36) from the field and 52.9 percent (9-of-17) from 3-point range. For the season, Rupkus is among the league leaders with 17.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. He's is 30
th nationally in 3-point percentage at 46.3 percent.
Skidmore (7-3, 5-0 Liberty League) remains perfect in Liberty League action after a dramatic 70-69 victory on Friday at RPI and an 90-83 Saturday victory at Union. The Thoroughbreds, winners of three straight and six of the last seven, have a busy week ahead, beginning with a trip to Division-I Yale on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Thoroughbreds then return home, hosting RIT on Friday at 7 p.m. and Hobart on Saturday at 4 p.m.
