Rupkus named league's Performer of the Week

TROY, N.Y. – A brilliant scoring display by senior guard Edvinas Rupkus of the Skidmore College men's basketball team earned him a nod as the Liberty League's Performer of the Week, as the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday, Jan. 28.

It's the first such honor for Rupkus this season and the ninth of his career.

Rupkus missed just four shots all weekend, averaging 22 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, shooting an incredible 80.9 percent (17-for-21) from the field, 60 percent (6-for-10) from 3-point range, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in two games.

Rupkus needed just nine shots to score 22 points in Skidmore's victory over Union on Friday, adding eight rebounds, one steal, and one blocked shot. In Skidmore's record-setting victory over RPI on Saturday, Rupkus did his part with 22 points on 10-for-12 shooting from the field, adding three rebounds and an assist.

Rupkus has scored 22 points in each of his last three contests and is fifth in the league in scoring at 17.3 points per game. The senior leads the league in free throw percentage (.869), is second in 3-point percentage (.460) and is fourth in field goal percentage (.505).

Skidmore (12-6, 10-2 Liberty League) has won four straight games, sweeping last weekend with a 78-67 win against Union and an 81-50 victory against RPI. The Thoroughbreds hit the road for a crucial stretch of games, beginning this Friday as Skidmore travels to Ithaca at 7 p.m. The Thoroughbreds will end the weekend at Bard on Saturday at 4 p.m.
