Postseason berth on the line in season finale

Thoroughbreds head north to take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team looks to secure a spot in the Liberty League tournament with its final two games of the regular season in the North Country.  Skidmore faces Clarkson on Friday at 8 p.m., and heads to St. Lawrence for the regular season finale on Saturday at 4 p.m.

Clarkson and St. Lawrence will provide live stats and video streaming for the weekend games.

The Thoroughbreds (11-11, 7-9 Liberty League) and Clarkson (11-12, 7-9 Liberty League) come into the weekend sitting in a four-way tie for fifth place with RPI and Vassar, both needing wins to ensure a postseason spot. St. Lawrence (5-18, 3-13 Liberty League) sits in 10th place.

This past weekend, Skidmore saw two tough losses to No. 25 Hobart and RIT. On Friday versus Hobart, despite trailing by 18 points at the half, the Thoroughbreds brought a strong effort in the second half and were able to bring it down to five points around the 10-minute mark. Eventually, Hobart proved to be too much for Skidmore, defeating the Thoroughbreds 78-62 to clinch the regular season title. The bench contributed, providing a season-high 31 points. In Saturday's match up, The Thoroughbreds honored the 2018 senior class in front of a packed Big Green Scream crowd. Trailing at the half to RIT, Skidmore would fight to get back in it, but it wasn't enough as they fell 69-61 in the home finale. Over half of the team's scoring came from within the paint and 27 points came from off the bench.

Dakpe Yiljep adds 13.1 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and shoots 48.6 percent from the field. Chase Ta is the league's assist leader with 4.6 per game.

Clarkson saw a couple of double digit wins this past weekend. The Golden Knights holds the league's second best defense percentage, 40.2 percent. They also show to be a threat from beyond the arc as they make an average of 10.2 per game and shoot at a 37.1 percent clip. Matt Higgins averages 18 points per game, shooting a field goal percentage of 43.8, and secures an average of 4.8 rebounds per game. Liam Ellis doesn't trail by much, adding 15.8 points per game and leading the team in free throw percentage at 83 percent. Gary Hanley records an average of 9.3 rebounds per game. Skidmore played Clarkson earlier in the season at home, they were able to get the 77-60 victory, holding the Golden Knights to a season-low six made 3-pointers.
