Thoroughbreds host Vassar in fall finale

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team wraps up the fall semester with a home matchup against Liberty League foe Vassar, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
 
Coming back into league action, Skidmore (4-3, 2-0 Liberty League) is tied for first place in the league standings with Bard after two games. The Thoroughbreds defeated St. Lawrence (83-67) and Clarkson (67-57) to begin the league season.
 
Skidmore averages 70.7 points per game, but shoots the ball at a .427 clip from the field and a league-leading .781 mark from the free throw line. The Thoroughbreds are also fourth in the league in 3-point percentage (.333). On the other end, the Thoroughbreds allow just 70.2 points per game and teams shoot 39.1 percent from the field.
 
Individually, Noah Meren leads the league in scoring at 24.9 points per game, a mark that stands 11th in the nation. He also leads the team with 1.1 steals per game. Edvinas Rupkus is second in scoring at 15.7 points per game. He's shooting an impressive 43.2 percent from beyond the arc and 90.9 percent from the free throw line, both career-bests. He also leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game. Dakpe Yiljep is third with 6.3 points per game, with Greg Skoric right behind at 5.9 points. Skoric leads the team in blocked shots (eight) and shooting percentage from the field (.548).
 
Vassar comes into the Wednesday contest with a 3-4 record and a 1-1 mark in league action. The Brewers opened the league season with a loss at Ithaca, but rebounded with a narrow victory over Hobart.
 
The Brewers are second in rebounding margin (8.4), averaging 43.6 boards per game. The Brewers are also among the top shooting teams in the league, averaging 45.3 percent from the field. Vassar sports four double-digit scorers in Alex Seff (16.0), Zach Bromfeld (14.9), Paul Grinde (14.1), and Hugh Durham (11.3). Bromfeld is one of the league's leading rebounders, averaging 8.4 caroms per game.
 
The Thoroughbreds will be looking for revenge from last season. Vassar swept the season series between the teams for the first time since 2013-14, including a dramatic 72-71 win at the Williamson Sports Center.
