Box Score 2 CANTON, N.Y.—The Skidmore College baseball team lost a walk off heartbreaker and a not so close second game to kick off a four-game Liberty League set at St. Lawrence University.
The Thoroughbreds lost the first game 4-3 and the second 17-8 to fall to 9-11 overall and 4-8 in league play. The Saints are 6-11 and 4-4. The teams play another pair on Saturday in Canton.
St. Lawrence won the first game when Adam Reichel drew a four-pitch bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run with two-outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Skidmore led 3-0 after two innings on RBI singles by
Daniel Dasgupta and
Steven Gilbert and a
Mat Marino sacrifice fly.
The Saints tied it with three in the third to set-up the final inning heroics.
Andrew Aikins (2-3) allowed four runs on five hits, with three walks and one strike out for the Thoroughbreds.
Runs came in bunches in the second game. After spotting SLU a 2-0 lead, the Thoroughbreds put five on the board in the fourth for a 5-2 lead. The Saints cut it to 5-4 with two in the fifth, but Skidmore added two in the sixth for a 7-4 lead. SLU responded with five in the sixth, four more in the seventh, and four in the eight for the 17-8 final.
Dasgupta was 2-3 with a run and two RBI.
Josh Brown went 2-5 with two runs and
Shawn Klier was 2-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Josh Gamboa (3-2) went five innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits, with three walks and five strikeouts.
