SARATOGA SPRNGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team wraps up its four-game road trip with two Liberty League contests this weekend. The Thoroughbreds face Union in Schenectady on Friday at 4 p.m., and finish the weekend with a rematch of the 2016 Liberty League Championship game, traveling to Geneva to face defending league champion William Smith on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Skidmore (7-4, 3-1 Liberty League) currently sits in a tie for second place in the league standings with Rochester near the midway point of the conference season. The Thoroughbreds defeated Rochester 10-5 back on March 31. Last weekend, the Thoroughbreds dropped their first conference game, falling to Clarkson 8-7 in Potsdam on Friday before rebounding with a 10-8 victory over St. Lawrence the next day in Canton.

Rachel Talanian broke yet another school record, becoming the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers. She tallied three caused turnovers to break the mark of 122, set by Annie Ledyard. She also enters the weekend nine ground balls shy of the record of 211, which was also set by Ledyard. This season, Talanian leads the Liberty League in ground balls per game (4.64) and caused turnovers per game (2.55).
As a team, Skidmore leads the league in ground balls (224) and caused turnovers (112) and are third in scoring at 10.91 goals per game. On offense,
Cas Szwajkowski leads the Thoroughbreds and the Liberty League with 47 points on 44 goals and three assists.
Natalie LaBeau is second on the team with 27 points on 12 goals and 15 assists, which rank second in the league.
Tyler Phillips is second on the team with 15 goals to go along with her seven assists.
Megan Kolopsky has started every game in goal for the Thoroughbreds this season. She has a 9.11 goals against average and a .464 save percentage to go along with her 6-3 record.
Caroline Kenlon has a 12.41 goals against average and a .467 save percentage in five games and 116 minutes of action.
Union comes into the weekend with a 2-5 record overall and a 1-2 mark in league play. In their last meeting, the Dutchwomen fell 12-7 to William Smith last Saturday.
Jackie Hagopian leads the Dutchwomen with 19 points on 17 goals and two assists. Cailin Pandolfi is second with 18 points on eight goals and a team-leading 13 assists. Pandolfi also leads the team with 13 draw controls. Natalie Sullivan is second with 13 goals to go along with four assists. Sullivan also leads the team in ground balls (13) and caused turnovers (10). Jen Hughes has started all seven games in goal for the Dutchwomen, with a 11.27 goals against average and a .455 save percentage.
Last season, Union edged Skidmore by an 8-7 score in Saratoga Springs on April 2.
William Smith, ranked ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll and third in the latest US Lacrosse Magazine poll, comes into the weekend with a 10-1 record and is in first place with a 3-0 mark in league play. The Herons will host RPI Friday afternoon before Skidmore comes to town the next day.
This is a rematch of the 2016 Liberty League Championship game, where the Herons edged the Thoroughbreds by a 7-6 score.
The Herons are the league's stingiest defense, allowing a league-best 4.9 goals per game. William Smith are second to the Thoroughbreds in both ground balls (201) and caused turnovers (111). Individually, Alexandra Bird leads the Herons in scoring with 32 points on 23 goals and nine assists. William Smith also has two 20-point scorers in Ali Burns (21) and Allie Flaherty (22). Melissa Moore is second on the team with 28 points on 18 goals and a team-leading 10 assists. Moore (13), Flaherty (11), and Kelsi Carr (12) are the leaders in caused turnovers. Sarah Honan has played nearly every minute in goal, leading the league in goals against average (4.89) and save percentage (.571).
