Skidmore concludes season with 12-11 loss to Bombers

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team concluded the 2026 season with a 12-11 loss in the final minute of regulation to Ithaca at Wachenheim Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (7-10, 3-7 Liberty League) seized control of the game with a six-goal second quarter to take a two-goal lead into halftime and extended the advantage to three early in the fourth. However, the Bombers (11-5, 7-3 Liberty League) scored the final four goals of the game, including the game-winner with 40 seconds remaining, to complete the comeback.

For the game, Skidmore outshot Ithaca 31-28, held an advantage in draw controls (15-9), and finished with a 23-15 edge in ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the Bombers struck first to open the game, senior Allison Brewer responded for Skidmore with a pair of goals off assists from fellow senior Lily Hudner and junior Phoebe Ross, giving the Thoroughbreds a 2-1 lead at the 8:14 mark of the first quarter.
  • Ithaca closed out the quarter with four unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
  • It was all Thoroughbreds in the second period, as Skidmore outscored Ithaca 6-1 to take an 8-6 lead into halftime. Hudner netted a pair, while junior Charlotte Taylor, Brewer, and Cafasso each added goals. Sophomore Olivia Emerson capped the quarter with a last-second solo strike.
  • In a low-scoring third quarter, Cafasso broke through first for Skidmore with a solo goal at the 7:54 mark to extend the lead to 9-6. The Bombers answered just over a minute later to cut the deficit to two heading into the fourth.
  • In the fourth, Skidmore scored two of the first three goals, both from Hudner, to push the lead to 11-8 at the 11:53 mark.
  • Ithaca responded with three straight goals down the stretch to tie the game at 11-11 with 4:39 remaining.
  • With under a minute to play, the Thoroughbreds came up with a key defensive stop and looked to set up a potential game-winning possession, but a turnover on the ensuing clear led to an uncontested transition goal by Ithaca, giving the Bombers a 12-11 lead with 40 seconds left.
  • Ithaca won the final draw control and ran out the clock to secure the victory.
