Brewer scores four goals in Skidmore loss at RIT

ROCHESTER, NY – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team rallied back to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, but a go-ahead goal from RIT resulted in an 8-7 loss on the road Saturday afternoon.

In a low-scoring contest that featured 36 combined turnovers and 24 saves, the Thoroughbreds (7-9, 3-6 Liberty League) erased a three-goal second-half deficit late into the fourth quarter before the Tigers (9-6, 3-6 Liberty League) netted the game-winner with 2:03 remaining in regulation.

Individually, senior Allison Brewer accounted for more than half of Skidmore's scoring with four goals, while sophomore Tatum Walsh made 10 saves and added two ground balls to anchor a strong defensive effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a turnover-heavy first quarter that featured 12 combined giveaways, neither team scored until the Tigers broke through on a player-up goal with 1:10 remaining.
  • Brewer answered on the ensuing possession, scoring off an assist from junior Phoebe Ross with 35 seconds left to even the game.
  • The teams traded two goals apiece early in the second quarter, as senior Julia Cafasso scored at the 10:07 mark and Brewer added a player-up goal off an assist from senior Lily Hudner to keep it tied at 3-3 with 8:02 to go.
  • The Tigers pulled ahead with back-to-back goals to take a 5-3 lead at the 2:03 mark, before Cafasso closed the half with a solo player-up goal in the final minute to make it a one-goal game at intermission.
  • In a low-scoring third quarter, RIT struck first with two solo goals to extend the lead to 7-4 with 3:18 remaining.
  • Brewer answered for Skidmore with 25 seconds left, converting a free-position shot to cut into the deficit.
  • The Thoroughbreds tied the game in the fourth quarter, as Brewer scored on a player-up opportunity at the 10:38 mark and junior Charlotte Taylor followed with a solo goal at 4:32 to make it 7-7.
  • However, the Tigers regained the lead on a free-position goal at the 3:13 mark to go ahead 8-7.
  • Taylor generated a free-position opportunity with 2:03 remaining, but her shot went wide as RIT held on in the closing minutes.
