WILTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team, ranked 26th in the latest Oracle/ITA Division III rankings, dropped a 7-2 decision to No. 4 Middlebury in non-conference action at the Wilton YMCA on Sunday.
Skidmore falls to 4-5 on the season, while Middlebury remains undefeated at 4-0.
The Thoroughbreds won both of their points in singles play after dropping all three doubles matches.
Travis Leaf capped off an impressive week, outlasting Middlebury's Alex Vanezis in three sets at the sixth spot, winning 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9). Leaf has won four of his last five matches against the top teams in the country.
John Wynne picked up Skidmore's other victory at the fourth spot, defeating Timo van der Geest in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8).
Skidmore returns to Liberty League play with a highly-anticipated matchup against league rival Rensselaer on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Troy.
