No. 23 Skidmore takes doubles point, but falls 4-2 to No. 12 Babson to end NCAA run

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Skidmore College men's tennis fell to Babson in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon, 4-2. The Thoroughbreds won the doubles point, but the Beavers claimed four out of the five completed singles matches to advance to Sunday's regional final.
  • Skidmore, ranked 23rd nationally, ends its season at 17-6 after winning its 16th conference title, first since 2021, and claiming its first NCAA win since 2019.
  • The 12th-ranked Babson team will take on host Bowdoin on Sunday afternoon to right to advance to the final site in Tennessee.  
  • The Thoroughbreds won at first and third doubles to take the first point. The Beavers claimed the second match before Yuval Goodman and Harrison Gradin claimed a 7-5 decision to knot it up.
  • Ege Topbas and Kyle Lundberg then beat Bourn/Mejia, 7-5, to give Skidmore the point going into singles play.
  • Babson tied it up at two by taking two out of the first three completed singles matches.
  • Topbas won his second bout of the day at fourth singles (7-6, 6-0) to get it tied up.
  • Babson then got a tight straight-set win in the No. 5 match and closed it out at third singles in three sets to clinch the win.
  • Nika Mori was in the middle of the third set against his opponent at sixth singles when the match was clinched.
