SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – A crucial three-game home stand greets the Skidmore College women's soccer team, as the Thoroughbreds face the stretch run of the regular season with a home contest against St. Lawrence, at Wachenheim Field Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Thoroughbreds (3-8-1, 0-4-2 Liberty League) are hanging in the Liberty League postseason race, but will need to win out to have a chance at a postseason run. After the match against St. Lawrence, Skidmore finishes the season with contests against Union on Wednesday and Bard on Saturday.
Skidmore comes into the weekend off a resounding 4-1 victory at Ramapo last Wednesday and a crucial 1-1 tie against RIT last Saturday. Against RIT, an
Emily Mendes goal in the 73
rd minute fueled the Thoroughbreds to a draw. Against Ramapo, freshman midfielder
Yasmine Boukari had a career effort, tallying two goals and adding an assist in the victory.
Boukari leads the Thoroughbreds with 10 points on the season, on four goals and a pair of assists. Junior forward
Emma Basso shares the goal scoring lead, with four goals. Junior midfielder
Courtney Shaw leads the team with four assists, and has scored a goal in two of the last three contests. Senior goalkeeper
Alyssa Rollins has been a steadying presence in net, with a 2.23 goals against average and a .706 save percentage in over 1,200 minutes played.
SCOUTING ST. LAWRENCE
The Saints will march into Saratoga Springs with a 9-4 record overall and a 4-2 mark in the Liberty League. St. Lawrence is on a two-game win streak after victories against Vassar and Bard last weekend, moving to third in the league standings with 12 points.
The Saints are led by the tandem of Kaleigh White and Hannah Merriam, who are tied for the team lead with 13 points. Merriam is the goal scoring leader with 5 goals and three assists, while White is the main facilitator with five assists to go with four goals. Katie Stames is also a double-digit scoring threat, with four goals and three assists for 11 points.
Samantha Allen has been solid in net for the Saints all season, with a 0.83 goals against average and a .831 save percentage in 12 starts and just over 1,000 minutes played.
Last season, St. Lawrence defeated Skidmore in a 4-3 result up in Canton, N.Y. Mendes tallied a goal and added an assist in the effort.
