MIDDLEBURY, Vt.--The Middlebury baseball team scored the game's final six runs after an early 1-0 deficit, as the Panthers posted a 6-1 triumph over visiting Skidmore Thursday on Forbes Field. Middlebury (10-16) hosts Trinity in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch at 12:00 p.m., while the Thoroughbreds (10-22) are home on the same day against Bard.

Skidmore got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, manufacturing a run. Daniel Dasgupta walked, stole second, moved to third on a base hit by Josh Brown and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Jeb Clarke.

The Panthers quickly erased the one-run deficit in their half of the frame, pushing two runs across the plate. John Luke laced a double to left center scoring Garrett Werner from first base to tie the game. The hosts took the lead two pitches later on a single by Joe MacDonald, plating Luke for a 2-1 advantage.

Middlebury scored again in the second with Brendan Donohue ripping a one-out triple to right center and scoring one batter later on a base hit over the drawn-in infield by Johnny Read to make it a 3-1 game.

 The lead grew to 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth when the Panthers came through with a two-out RBI. Jake Turtel singled up the middle and Donohue scored from second after getting hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. The Panthers recorded a pair of unearned runs in the sixth, increasing their lead to the 6-1 final.

Eric Damphousse went 3-5 for the Thoroughbreds, while Jacob Berish had two base hits.  Starting pitcher Misha Holzman (0-2) took the loss for Skidmore, giving up four runs on six hits in four innings

Tucker Meredith (1-2) earned his first win of the season, allowing one run on seven hits in six innings with five strikeouts. Werner reached base in all five plate appearances for the Panther, officially going 3-3 with a walk and being hit by a pitch.
