Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.--
Josh Brown's third-inning grand slam keyed a 7-4 Skidmore baseball win over RIT in the first game of a Liberty League doubleheader, Sunday at Castle Diamond. The Tigers came back for a 5-0 win in the night cap.
The Thoroughbreds are 8-16 overall and 2-12 in league play. RIT is 16-6 and 10-3.
Playing as the visitors, Skidmore scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first to go up 2-0. The Tigers came back with one in the their half of the first and two more in the second, including a solo home run by Phil Sammon to take a 3-2 lead.
The Thoroughbreds loaded the bases with one out in the third on a pair of walks and an infield error. Brown drilled a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for his third homer of the season and a 6-3 Skidmore lead.
RIT scored in the fifth to cut it to 6-4, but Skidmore added an insurance run on a passed ball in the sixth for the 7-4 final.
Brown finished 2-4.
Jeb Clarke was 2-3 with two runs and
Steven Gilbert was 2-3.
Andrew Bannon got the hard earned win. He worked himself out of trouble several times, with the Tigers stranding 10 runners in the five innings he threw and 13 total. Bannon allowed four runs on three hits, with two strikeouts and 10 walks. Shanker Mani claimed his first collegiate save, tossing two scoreless innings.
Sammon was 2-3 for RIT. Brandon Cohall took the loss. He allowed seven runs (three earned) on seven hits over 5 1/3, walking two with three strikeouts.
In the second game, Tiger starter Conor Herlihy shutout the Thoroughbreds, going the full nine innings. He allowed one hit through the first six innings and four total, walking none and striking out three.
Will Gorman was 2-3 with a solo home run for the Tigers, while Zach Zabel was 2-3 with a two-run single.
Daniel Dasgupta had two of Skidmore's four hits.
Nick Petrella went seven innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits, with five strikeouts.
Joe Warner had a scoreless inning in relief.
The Thoroughbreds travel to Williams on April 21 for a single game.
