Women's basketball looks to clinch playoff berth against RPI/Union

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team hosts two key conference games this weekend, taking on RPI and Union.

The Thoroughbreds are currently second in the Liberty League standings, while the Engineers and the Dutchwomen are fourth and fifth, respectively. Skidmore can clinch a berth in the Liberty League playoffs with two wins this weekend.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (14-7, 10-2 Liberty League): Skidmore took down league-leader St. Lawrence in overtime on Tuesday night…Senior forward Angela Botiba, freshman guard Kelly Donnelly and junior guard Amber Holgate tied for a team-high with 15 points…Donnelly had 13 points on 5 of 7 shooting in the second half, also adding eight rebounds in the frame…The Thoroughbreds shot 51.9% (14-27) from the field in the second half…Skidmore held St. Lawrence to 30.3% shooting (23-76).
 
TEAM STATISTICS: Skidmore is 7-2 at home…The Thoroughbreds are averaging 67.8 points per game against conference opponents, while limiting Liberty League foes to 56.6 points…Skidmore is shooting 39.3% from the field against league opponents...The Thoroughbreds have the conference's best field goal defense, holding opponents to 32.4% shooting…The Thoroughbreds are 10-0 when shooting 40% or better from the field and 10-0 when shooting 31% or better from 3-point range…Skidmore is 11-0 when scoring 64 points or more.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Holgate is second on the team in scoring (9.5 points per game) and is averaging 13.0 points per game over the last two games…Donnelly is averaging eight points and eight rebounds per game against conference opponents…Botiba leads the league in field goal percentage (50.2%) and ranks third in blocked shots per game (1.8) and fifth rebounds per game (9.8)…Senior guard Molly McLaughlin (2.1) and junior guard Lindsey Davis (2.0) sit 2-3 in the league in 3-pointers per game.
 
 
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS (12-9, 8-4 Liberty League): RPI bounced back from a 73-64 loss at RIT on Friday with a 45-42 win over William Smith on Saturday…Senior guard Amanda Lynch had a game-high 21 points to go along with five rebounds against the Tigers…She led all players with 20 points against the Herons, going 9 for 17 from the field…Senior guard Bailei Tetrault tallied 14 points against RIT and junior Ashley Clough added 12 points and seven boards.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: RPI leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage defense (23.0%) and ranks third in scoring defense (57.8 ppg) and second in field goal percentage defense (34.1%)… RPI is 7-0 when shooting 37% or better from the field and 7-1 when recording 13 or more assists…The Engineers are 3-5 on the road.
 
STATISTICAL LEADERS: Lynch (15.5 ppg) and Clough (14.8 ppg) are 4-5 in the conference in scoring…Lynch is fifth in the Liberty League in field goal percentage (40.1%), while Clough ranks seventh in field goal percentage (36.9%) and sixth in 3-pointers per game (1.5)…Freshman forward Shaina Iton leads the league in blocked shots per game (3.0) and sits seventh in rebounds per game (8.0)…Senior guard Courtney Reynolds is averaging 2.0 steals per game, tying her for third in the conference.

SCOUTING THE DUTCHWOMEN (8-11, 2-8 Liberty League): Union suffered a 58-44 non-conference loss against Sage on Tuesday night…Sophomore guard Natalie Leone had a team-high 12 points, also adding five rebounds, four assists and two steals…Senior forward Kate Thompson pulled down a game-high 10 boards…The Dutchwomen finished 16 for 50 from the field, going 2 for 11 from 3-point range.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: Union has held opponents to 54.2 points per game, ranking first in the league…The Dutchwomen are second in the conference in field goal percentage (39.1%) and third in field goal percentage defense (34.7%)…Union is 4-0 in its last four conference contests…The Dutchwomen are 5-4 on the road…Union is 9-2 when shooting 40% from the field or better and 9-1 when shooting over 30% from beyond the arc…The Dutchwomen are 9-1 when recording nine or more steals and 9-1 when recording 13 or more assists.
