Skidmore battles back, but falls 53-45 to RIT in Liberty League Semifinal

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team ended its season on Friday night with a 53-45 loss at RIT in the Liberty League Semifinals.
  • Skidmore finishes the season 12-15 after making its fourth consecutive semifinal appearance.
  • RIT is 20-6 and off to its first championship game appearance since 2017 where it will travel to top-seeded Union on Sunday.
  • The Tigers led from wire-to-wire and had an answer for every Skidmore comeback attempt.
  • The Thoroughbreds battled back to within a point by the middle of the fourth quarter, but Caroline Henderson came back with a 3-pointer.
  • Two minutes later, Sara Hastie dropped one in off the glass to pull Skidmore to within two before Ben Kayser-Cochran hit a big-time triple again.
  • RIT closed going 4-for-4 at the line to finish it out.
  • Hastie and Sophia Martinez led Skidmore with 10 points apiece. Martinez added five rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
  • Ruby Krop scored nine with a block, and Claudia Schneider scored eight.
  • Madison Meyer had six out of Skidmore's 12 steals.
  • Henderson led three Tigers in double figures with 15 and a pair of blocks. Kayser-Cochran and Maddy Ramsgard both scored 10.
  • The Tigers connected on four out of their first five attempts from the field of the evening to grab the early lead.
  • Skidmore was able to get to within four in the second quarter before back-to-back 3-pointers from Henderson gave the hosts their first double-digit lead of the night.
  • RIT led by nine at the half after going 4-for-6 from downtown in the second.
  • Both teams had 5-0 runs in the third quarter, but the lead remained nine following the 10-10 period.
  • The Tigers finished with a 37-24 rebounding advantage and led 16-1 in second-chance points.
  • Skidmore, however, dominated the paint 28-8 and had its bench outscore RIT's 17-7.
  • The Thoroughbreds finished at 37.5 percent (18-of-48) from the field, while RIT shot 39.6 percent (19-of-48) and made nine 3-pointers.
  • Union beat St. Lawrence, 79-68, in the other semifinal to set up the RIT-Union matchup.
