#4 Skidmore remains perfect with 8-2 win over New Paltz

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Five different players combined for eight goals as the Skidmore College field hockey team defeated New Paltz 8-2 in the rain Saturday at Wagner Park.
 
The fourth ranked Thoroughbreds are off to a 4-0 start and will host Babson College on Sunday at 1 p.m.  New Paltz, which received votes in the most recent national poll, drops to 3-2.
 
Skidmore has dominated opponents in the first half with a 19-1 scoring and 74-5 first half shot advantage through four games. Overall the team has outscored opponents 32-5.
 
The Thoroughbreds got off to another quick start against the Hawks when Melanie Webb scored off a rebound from Dani DeGregory (Greenwich, N.Y./Greenwich) 8:15 into the game. DeGregory made it 2-0 when she took a pass from Webb and dribbled past New Paltz keeper Alayna Wageman for an empty net goal at 12:04.
 
DeGregory scored her 11th of the season at 31:27 when she rocketed a shot from the left side that caught the far upper corner for a 3-0 lead at the break.
 
Skidmore came out strong in the second half with four goals in a 9:50 span. Webb deflected a pass from Pauline Searles (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) at 37:13. Sam Skott (Hoosick Falls, N.Y./Hoosick Falls) scored goals at 41:28 and 44:00 to stretch the lead to 6-0. DeGregory and Webb had the respective assists.  Shannon Sebor scored her first of the season at 46:03.
 
Sofia San Marco closed out the Thoroughbred scoring off a rebound at  53:11.
 
The Hawks were able to break through with a pair of late goals. Kayla McKeveny scored off a scramble in front at 63:30 and Alex Gallo found the net off a rebound at 67:36.
 
Skidmore outshot New Paltz 30-9.  Amy Beck improved to 4-0 in net. She did not have to make a save. Zoe McGuire (Delmar, N.Y./Emma Willard) had four saves over the final 7:34.
 
Wageman finished with 15 saves for the Hawks.

"The team's talent and hard work were on display today," said Skidmore coach Beth Hallenbeck.  "Krista Lamoreaux dominated the midfield, the back was locked down by Maia Paul, Becca Halter and Jenn Hanks.  Dani DeGregory and Mel Webb led the onslaught on the scoring end.  Passing, speed, pressure, poise and teamwork were keys to the victory."
