SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –
Ella Costa scored her second goal of the season to give the Skidmore College field hockey team an early lead, but Geneseo scored the final four goals in a 4-1 non-league victory over the Thoroughbreds on Saturday afternoon at Wagner Park.
- Skidmore (1-1) controlled much of the opening quarter and broke through at 9:56. Costa finished a double redirect off an assist from Colby Paul to put the Thoroughbreds ahead 1-0.
- The goal was Costa's second in as many games. She has a team-high seven points on two goals and three assists through the first two contests of the season.
- Skidmore generated six penalty corners in the opening quarter and held a 5-1 advantage in shots over the first 15 minutes.
- Geneseo (2-0) tied the game at 21:22 when Aubree Wenner scored on a turnaround shot.
- The Knights took their first lead 5:36 into the third quarter. Halle Senfield sent a pass across to Ella Greico, who finished for a 2-1 Geneseo advantage.
- Skidmore responded with sustained pressure, producing four shots on goal and three penalty corners over the next 1:17, but Geneseo goalkeeper Bridget Schafer turned aside each attempt.
- Greico scored again on a rebound at 49:23 before Ava Harman closed the scoring at 56:42.
- Skidmore finished with a 19-16 advantage in shots and a 14-4 edge in penalty corners. Geneseo held a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal.
- Costa led the Thoroughbreds with three shots on goal. Erin Ohlenbusch and Catie O'Rourke each finished with four total shots.
- Nicole Sylvestri made eight saves in goal for Skidmore, including four in the fourth quarter. Schafer stopped six shots for Geneseo.
